The Big Chill star Meg Tilly has made a return to Hollywood after 18 years to play Brad Pitt’s wife.

The actress stepped away from the spotlight after a run of films in the 1980s and 1990s to focus on being a good mum to her three kids, two from her marriage to producer Tim Zinnemann and one from her romance with Oscar winner Colin Firth. She also became an author, writing seven books.

But the acting itch never went away, and now Tilly, 57, is back – as Brad Pitt’s wife in the new Netflix movie War Machine.

She admits she feared she wouldn’t be able to find work after spending almost two decades away from the screen, but she tells Closer magazine, “I really loved being on that set.”

And she enjoyed working with Brad, who plays a no-nonsense, hardcore military expert in War Machine, adding, “Hollywood can mess people up, so I was shocked and moved by what a kind and decent person Brad was. He’s such a gentleman, so thoughtful, and went out of his way to make me feel comfortable.

“I’ve worked with wonderful actors, but he’s the most generous in terms of being there behind the scenes. He gives 110 per cent.”

Meg, who also appeared in Fame and starred in movies like Psycho II, The Two Jakes, and Valmont, decided to return to Hollywood after her youngest child, Firth’s son William, left home, telling Closer, “That’s what you raise your children for, but it was a shock. I was used to the hustle and bustle of my children, making meals and driving lessons.

“Everyone said that when your children leave, all the love you were giving them, you can give to yourself and do what you want… and I thought, ‘What do I want?'”
