Mia Maestro drops out of Evita film

Actress Mia Maestro has dropped out of a long-delayed new Evita movie due to scheduling conflicts. The actress was slated to play Eva Peron, the famous First Lady of her native Argentina, and was scheduled to begin shooting the project earlier this year (14), but the movie’s start date kept getting pushed back, and now director Pablo Aguero is planning to roll cameras in January (15).
But, since Maestro will be filming the second season of Guillermo del Toro’s TV series The Strain in Toronto, Canada until May (15), she has been forced to drop out of the project.
This new version of Evita chronicles the bizarre 25-year journey Peron’s embalmed corpse took around Europe until she was laid to rest in Argentina.
The film also stars Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal, Denis Lavant, Daniel Fanego, and Nahuel P. Biscayart, as well as Spanish star Imanol Arias, who will play the doctor who embalmed Peron’s body.
Aguero has yet to announce a replacement for Maestro.
