Michael Sheen hopes Harvey Weinstein scandal will ‘change’ Hollywood

Michael Sheen hopes the Harvey Weinstein scandal will mark a new phase in the film industry.
Movie mogul Weinstein is currently the subject of several police investigations following accusations of sexual assault and harassment by a number of women, including actresses Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Actor Sheen has now spoken out over the allegations aimed at Weinstein, describing him as being part of a “sick system”, and showing his support for the women who have come out with claims against him
“He’s got his just deserts and I hope it changes the industry. That is what is important,” he told the Daily Mirror on Saturday (21Oct17).
While Sheen is now dating Sarah Silverman, he was formerly in a relationship with actress Kate Beckinsale, with whom he shares a daughter named Lily, 18.
Following an expose in The New York Times, Beckinsale was one of the women who claimed Weinstein preyed on her when she was just 17. The Pearl Harbour star recalled how she went for a meeting with the executive in his hotel room at the Savoy in London, only to find him in his bathrobe.
“After declining alcohol and announcing I had school in the morning I left, uneasy but unscathed,” she said in a statement.
The actress, who split with Sheen back in 2003, later declined invitations to work on Weinstein’s Miramax productions, claiming he threatened her because of it.
Sheen’s comments come as Weinstein will continue to receive treatment at a luxury Arizona resort for the next month.
“Mr. Weinstein is receiving in-patient as well as outpatient medical treatment for the next month or so,” a spokesperson for the disgraced movie producer confirmed on Saturday.
Weinstein was fired from The Weinstein Company, the firm he co-founded, following the flurry of sexual assault allegations made against him in several exposes. He has denied any non-consensual sexual conduct.
