Michelle Dockery returns to the red carpet after fiance’s death

Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery has made her first red carpet appearance since her fiance’s death last year (15).
Michelle wore a beautiful yellow dress as she attended the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C., on Saturday (30Apr16).
It was her first public appearance since her fiance, John Dineen, lost his battle with brain cancer in December (15).
The actress shared a cheery image on Instagram.com, and called the event Nerd Prom, a joke title given to the dinner. “Headed to#nerdprom2016 #whcd #joy,” she captioned a shot of her smiling in the back of a car.
Michelle, who portrayed Lady Mary Crawley in the period drama, was in the middle of a press tour for the series in the U.S. when John became gravely ill. She flew back to the U.K. to be by his side, and he passed away on 13 December (15).
At his funeral in Ireland, the actress paid tribute to her boyfriend, who she called her “king”. She told the large congregation, “I was honoured to know John, to love him and be loved by him. He was my friend, my king, my hero, my everything. We celebrate him, we honour him and we will miss him.”
Dockery stepped out of the public eye following his death, but she has been seen in recent weeks back on the set of her TNT drama, Good Behavior in North Carolina.
