Millie Bobby Brown struggled to control her tears as she picked up the Best Actor in a Show gong at the MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday night (07May17).

The 13-year-old actress, who stars as the mysterious Eleven in Netflix smash hit show Stranger Things, was overcome with emotion as she took to the stage at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium.

“First of all I want to thank everyone that voted and especially MTV… I want to think the cast and crew for being my second family. I love you,” she began, managing to hold it together.

It was when she namechecked her family that Millie’s emotions got the better of her, with the teenager growing teary as she said: “I want to thank my family… you give me light every day. My mum and dad, for being so supportive.”

The British actress also thanked Matt and Ross Duffer, the brothers who created the show, saying: “They’ve created a bad-a*s, female character that I’ve got the honor to play. Thank you guys so much. I love you.”

Millie showcased her quirky style at the awards by teaming her glamorous white sequinned dress with a pair of white cowboy boots.

As well as Millie’s prize, Stranger Things also took home the Show of the Year prize, with the cast of another Netflix smash, 13 Reasons Why, given the job of presenting them with the award.

Stranger Things, which also stars Winona Ryder and David Harbour, tells the story of a quiet American town which is thrown into chaos when people start going missing. The arrival of Eleven, who turns up in the town unsure of where she’s come from and unable to speak much at all, adds another piece to the puzzle. After the phenomenal success of the debut series of the program, Netflix renewed it for a second season, which will premiere on October 13.
