Mindy Kaling opens up about sleepless nights with her new baby

Mindy Kaling wasn’t prepared for the lack of sleep that comes with new parenthood.

The actress welcomed daughter Katherine last December (17) and has since been extremely busy caring for the infant and promoting her latest film, Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time.
Accordingly, Mindy isn’t getting a whole lot of shut-eye at the moment.

“When you have a baby, you don’t necessarily know at the beginning that you’re going to be up every three hours,” she said during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday (08Mar18). “So, I’m up in the middle of the night with her, and after it’s hard to go back to sleep so I’ll just return emails and things like that.”

When she’s unable to go back to bed, Mindy typically spends her time responding to family members who have got in touch to congratulate her on the birth of her little girl.

However, the star divulged that many people have been left confused by her late-night messages.
“I’ll return emails saying, ‘Oh, thank you so much, I’m thinking you, thank you.’ And then next morning people will be like, ‘Why did you send me an email at 3am saying, ‘I’m thinking about you?'” the 38-year-old laughed.

Mindy also admitted that she “was not a kid person at all” until she welcomed her first child, and jokingly remarked that she’d awkwardly shake the hand of a friend’s baby if they were brought along to a party.

“I was on planes when babies would cry and I would be mad at the families. Now I’m like let them cry, let them do whatever they want, they can sit on me, poop on me because now I know more,” she insisted.
