Mindy Kaling attended an Oscars after-party with her “best friend” B.J. Novak on Sunday night (04Mar18).
The pair, who dated while they were starring on the U.S. version of The Office, rocked up to the Vanity Fair bash in Los Angeles together, with Kaling uploading a video of them to her Instagram account, where she stated: “I’m headed out for a night of fun with my best friend.”
Posing for photographers at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, Novak sported a tuxedo, while the A Wrinkle in Time star rocked a strapless black sequin gown from Prabal Gurung, with the occasion marking one of the first parties she has stepped out at since giving birth to her first child, a daughter named Katherine, in December (17).
While Kaling has not revealed the identity of her baby’s father, her latest outing with Novak has delighted many Twitter followers hoping to see them reconcile.
“Hey @mindykaling and @bjnovak- we are currently living in the darkest timeline and we really need you to be the couple we all want you to be. It’s time. Service to your country is needed,” one user wrote, while another added: “casually crying at Mindy and B.J. being at the Oscars together.”
While the stars have not been linked since their days on The Office, Kaling previously described their close bond in an interview with InStyle magazine in 2015.
“I will freely admit: My relationship with B.J. Novak is weird as hell. He is not my boyfriend, but he is not my best friend,” she shared. “I guess you could describe our relationship as a ‘romantically charged camaraderie with loud arguments,’ but I don’t think Facebook would accept this as a new status.”
