Mindy Kaling has dropped some hints about the plot of the hotly-anticipated Ocean’s Eight movie.
The 37-year-old actress will appear alongside Sarah Paulson, Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter and rapper/actress Awkwafina in the upcoming all-female reboot of the Ocean’s Eleven movie franchise.
During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday night (03Oct16), Mindy revealed some closely guarded secrets about movie’s storyline, which is set to begin filming in just two weeks’ time.
“It’s (set) in New York City and there’s a fashion element to it,” she teased. “This movie was like if you took all my favourite things and like shook it up in a blender, it would be like, ‘Oh, this is the Mindy Kaling movie.’”
Starring with such a supremely talented cast is a daunting prospect for Mindy, who is best known for her role in the TV sitcom The Mindy Project.
The original Ocean’s films tell the tale of a group of tricky criminals who team up to perform an impressive heist. But Mindy is unsure about just what “talent” her character will have at this point.
“The movies are so cool but I’m real scared because when I look at that list of people, I’m like, I know that my skill is going to be like I get attacked by the guard dog so they can break into the casino,” she laughed.
The movie will be directed by Gary Ross and produced by filmmaker Steven Soderbergh, who directed George Clooney and Brad Pitt in 2001’s Ocean’s Eleven, a remake of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin‘s 1960 heist caper of the same name.
It remains to be seen whether Ocean’s Eight will be the first in a series of films about the female team of heist merchants. Ocean’s Eleven was followed by Ocean’s Twelve in 2004 and Ocean’s Thirteen in 2007.
