Miramax signs Jet Li for $10 million

Variety reports that Miramax Films has signed Jet Li to star in an upcoming comedy about a Tibetan monk who wins a trip to New York and brings harmony to the inner city. The comedy will be written by Robert Mark Kamen, and Hong Kong director Cary Yuen will handle the action sequences. Both worked with Li on the upcoming film Kiss of the Dragon, set for release July 6. A director has not yet been attached to the project. Li broke into the U.S. market with Lethal Weapon 4, and more recently appeared in Romeo Must Die co-starring Bridget Fonda. Li will be paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $10 million for the unnamed project, which will begin shooting in the fall.
