The iCarly star’s mother bought her a small but lethal device to use for self-defence as she began college at the University of Southern California this summer (12), and Cosgrove quickly discovered it was no ordinary pepper spray.
She explains, “My mum got me a pepper spray because all my friends have them on keychains, just to be careful, and I was like, ‘Ah, whatever, I’m never gonna use that.’ Anyway, she actually had pepper spray from this security guard that was on tour with me a year ago, so it wasn’t normal pepper spray, it was like, for the war…
“She came into my bathroom one morning… she was like, ‘Here, I’m gonna give you this pepper spray, I’m gonna take the protective seal off because you don’t want to be fumbling with that if something happens’, so she took the protective seal off, and she accidentally sprayed me with pepper spray!
“I was down on the floor, crawling through my house, trying to get to the front door and outside so I could breathe. I couldn’t see for like 10 minutes and my mum was crying ’cause she felt really bad and didn’t know what to do.”
