Mo’Nique lands leading role in Blackbird adaptation

Oscar winner Mo’nique has signed on to play Isaiah Washington’s estranged wife in the upcoming film adaptation of Larry Duplechan’s bestseller, Blackbird. The Precious star will portray Claire Rousseau in the drama that revolves around a gay, teenage African-American choirboy, played by newcomer Julian Walker.
The actress will also co-produce director Patrik-Ian Polk’s film with her husband Sidney Hicks, through their Hicks Media production company.
Casting Mo’Nique, Polk says, “When we wrote the role of Claire Rousseau, we dreamed of attracting an A-list actress. So to actually get an Oscar winner of Mo’Nique’s calibre was literally a dream come true.”
