Modern Family creator honoured with NAPTE award

Levitan, who also created longrunning comedy Just Shoot Me!, was handed the Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Award at a gala in Miami Beach, Florida on Tuesday night (29Jan13).

The prize is given to small screen professionals who push the boundaries of TV like the award’s namesake, Brandon Tartikoff, the late executive behind hit series such as The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Knight Rider, and The Golden Girls.

In his acceptance speech, Levitan credited Tartikoff for inspiring him to take up TV writing, saying, “While I never had the pleasure of working with Brandon, I am deeply honoured to accept this award that bears his name… The bottom line is making good television is incredibly hard and you can’t do it without the help of good people like Brandon.

“I have drafted off their hard work and I say that here tonight because this is not televised and I don’t want it to get out.”
