Monroe’s gown fetches over $300,000 at auction

The gown, dubbed “the most important film dress to ever come to auction” was the star lot at the Profiles in History sale in Los Angeles over the weekend (12-13Jun10), and sold for approximately $319,500 (£213,000) – well over its predicted price of $255,000 (£170,000).

The Wicked Witch of the West’s hat from The Wizard of Oz fetched a massive $206,130 (£137,420), while Julie Andrews’ carpet bag from Mary Poppins garnered a top bid of $97,911 (£65,274).

Johnny Depp’s bladed gloves from Edward Scissorhands and his Jack Sparrow jacket from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies went for a combined total of $46,878 (£31,252), while a gilded cup from Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade sold for $16,490 (£10,993).
