More Downey Drug Debacles

There are new reports that say Robert Downey Jr‘s Thanksgiving drug arrest wasn’t the first time the actor fell off the wagon since his August release from prison.

People magazine is saying that Downey actually starting taking drugs again soon after he was released.

The magazine quotes its source of the new information as being an unnamed friend of Downey’s ex-wife.

People isn’t the only periodical that’s reporting the story. The National Enquirer is reporting that actress Anne Heche provided Downey with drugs after meeting on the set of “Ally McBeal” when Heche made a guest appearance.

Downey’s publicist, Alan Nierob, has denied all allegations made against the troubled actor.

Downey’s latest run-in stems from his arrest Nov. 25 at a posh Palm Springs, Calif., hotel where the actor was staying. Acting on a tip, police went to Downey’s hotel room and conducted a search in which officers found 4.5 grams of cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as 16 Valium pills stuffed inside a Kleenex box.

Downey is free on $15,000 bail and awaits a hearing in Indio on Dec. 27.

The arrest could cost Downey more jail time and has already cost the actor acting opportunities. Today, executives at Revolution Studios confirmed that they are trying out Hank Azaria to take over Downey’s role in “America’s Sweethearts,” a romantic comedy starring Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta-Jones that’s supposed to start shooting in January.

“It’s definite that we’re out looking for somebody,” Tom Sherak of Revolution Studios told USA Today. “We need to move forward with this, and we’re not quite sure what’s going to happen on Dec. 27.”
