Morgan Freeman: ‘I wasn’t scolding old friend at Screen Actors Guild Awards’

Morgan Freeman has revealed the identity of the actress who stopped him in his tracks during his Life Achievement Award acceptance speech at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday (21Jan18), insisting he wasn’t scolding her for chatting.

The actor had just begun his speech when he stopped and said, “Hey, I’m talking to you”, adding, “You just stand out to me, that’s all…”

Guests and viewers were baffled by the moment and had no idea who the actor was talking to.

Backstage, gossips suggested the Shawshank Redemption star was put off by someone in the front rows talking, but now he reveals he was addressing Lily Tomlin – and she wasn’t being a rude chatterbox.

“She’s a wonder in herself and I’ve always loved her. I see her, I say hello,” he explains.

The 80-year-old was presented with his Life Achievement award by longtime friend Rita Moreno.
