Mortal Instruments sequel shelved – report

Studio bosses have put production on the sequel to The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones on hold. Executives at Constantin Film are postponing production on The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes, which was scheduled to begin next week (beg16Sep13) with filmmaker Harald Zwart returning to direct.
According to movie website TheWrap.com, work on the fantasy blockbuster follow-up, based on the young adult book franchise by Cassandra Clare, has been shut down indefinitely.
A statement from executive producer Martin Moszkowicz reads, “Pushing back the start of production of City of Ashes was a decision we did not take lightly. But after speaking with all of our partners on the creative and distribution side, it was clear that it will be beneficial to have more time to reposition the film in the current market place.”
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, starring Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower, pulled in $58 million (£39 million) at the global box office on a reported budget of $60 million (£40 million) following its release last month (Aug13).
