“Moulin Rouge” the movie; next, the stage show

Baz Luhrmann is planning to produce a stage version of his upcoming film Moulin Rouge, which opened the Cannes Film Festival last week, the film’s producer, Martin Brown, said in Cannes Tuesday. Screendaily.com, the online offshoot of the British trade magazine Screen International, indicated that Brown, who has been associated with Luhrmann for more than a decade, will not be involved in the theatrical production. Brown, it said, is parting with Luhrmann to set up his own Sydney-based company, Martin Brown Films, and has approached fellow Australian Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, The Bone Collector, The Quiet American) to direct a planned romantic thriller, Black Honeymoon.
