Motion Picture Association of America censors ruled the thriller was too violent for an R rating and they slapped the film, directed by David Lynch’s daughter Jennifer, with a dreaded NC-17, which bans anyone aged 17 and under from viewing the movie.
Executives at distributors Anchor Bay Entertainment battled the decision but had their appeal rejected on Tuesday (01May12).
It’s the second time in six weeks that an appeals board for the MPAA’s Classification and Rating Administration has decided to stick with an NC-17 on an independent movie – Matthew McConaughey’s new film Killer Joe also landed an NC-17 tag for “graphic aberrant content involving violence and sexuality, and a scene of brutality” in March (12).
