MTV bosses to launch Scream as a TV series with Wes Craven?

The Scream franchise is heading to the small screen as part of a scary new MTV deal. Network executives have ordered a one-hour pilot episode based on the movies, and they’re hoping to persuade Wes Craven to sit in the director’s chair. The series is expected to air next summer (14).

The film series, about a masked serial killer who stalks his victims, began in 1996 and has grossed over $600 million (£375 million) worldwide.

The franchise, which starred Party of Five actress Neve Campbell, was widely regarded as a game-changer for the horror genre, mixing self-referential humor with true scares.
