Sales may have been weak for mid-January, but the Beatles are still going strong, holding on to the No. 1 spot in the album sales chart for the seventh week in a row.
The Beatles’ “1,” a compilation album featuring all 27 of the Fab Four’s No. 1 hits, sold more than 260,000 units in the week ending Sunday, Daily Variety reports. The chart topper has practically revived the financial kitty for its record company, Capitol Records and its parent, EMI. “1” has sold more than 7 million units to date.
Reggae guy Shaggy took the No. 2 spot, selling 191,000 units of his latest effort, “Hot Shot.” The rest of the Top 10 remained the same, among them Creed’s “Human Clay” at No. 4, Sade’s “Lovers’ Rock” at No. 6 and Snoop Dogg’s “Tha Last Meal” at No. 8.

PUFF DADDY COURT CASE: Chalk up Puff Daddy’s first day in court as unproductive.
For a day that was suppose to be the start of jury selection in Sean “Puffy” Comb’s trial, the number of jurors who were actually selected was zero, The Associated Press reports. However, Judge Charles Solomon assured prospective jurors on Wednesday that they can expect the trial to be interesting.
“If you ever had a desire to serve on a jury, I can assure you, professionally and personally, this will be a good one,” he said to a pool of 150 people to hear a case that could last five to six weeks.
Combs, his bodyguard, Anthony “Wolf” Jones, 34, and rapper Jamal “Shyne” Barrow, 19, were arrested on Dec. 27, 1999, after Barrow allegedly shot three people in Club New York, a Times Square nightclub. Barrow faces attempted murder charges.
Combs was charged with two counts of illegal possession of a weapon after police found a pistol in the Lincoln Navigator used by Combs and his girlfriend, actress-singer Jennifer Lopez, to leave the nightclub. Police said a second handgun was thrown out of the vehicle. Combs was also charged with bribery for allegedly offering to pay his driver $50,000 to claim ownership of the gun in the car.
