Naomi Judd still estranged from daughter Wynonna

Country music icon Naomi Judd remains a “little estranged” from her singer daughter Wynonna, six years after detailing their troubled relationship as part of a TV docu-series.
The Judds performed a series of farewell shows together in 2010, and also allowed cameras from Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network to chronicle life on the road and behind the scenes.
However, the series only highlighted the tension between the mother and daughter duo on the road, and although they regrouped last year (15) for a string of Las Vegas gigs, Naomi reveals her personal relationship with Wynonna still hasn’t been fully repaired.
“I love her, but there are just times when we just need a break from each other…,” she told U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America, before shrugging as she explained, “We’re still a little estranged from each other, and that happens with mothers/daughters.”
Naomi gave birth to Wynonna, her first child, when she was just 18 and went on to raise her and her youngest daughter Ashley Judd as a single mother, following the breakdown of her marriage to Michael Ciminella.
The veteran star openly admits she made mistakes as a young mum because she had no idea what she was doing, and it’s something she and Wynonna have had to work through over the years.
“From the day I knew she existed, it was the two of us against the world,” she shared. “And then through the decades, we kinda grew up together… I’m always telling her, ‘If I’d known better, I would have done better’, so Wy bore the brunt of a lot of the mistakes I made, and we talk about them; we’ve been through a lot of therapy together.”
And while the two are currently not on great terms, the 70-year-old, who has battled severe depression in recent years, is sure Wynonna would be proud of her mum for addressing their issues head on, after years of burying her problems and suffering in silence.
Asked what Wynonna would think of the candid interview, Naomi mused, “I think she’ll say, ‘Good for you mum for finally being willing to talk about the bad stuff.'”
Meanwhile, Naomi’s relationship with her second child, actress Ashley, continues to blossom because they are “so stinking much alike”.
“We have the same mannerisms, we both read a whole lot, we both love new places,” the star smiled.
