Nelson felt ‘disrespected’ by Modern Family money offer

Producers for both shows wanted the veteran to lead their casts but Nelson went for the best deal, leaving Ed O’Neill to replace him on Modern Family.

Asked why he turned the show down during an appearance on news programme Access Hollywood Live on Wednesday (26Jan11), the honest actor said, “Money… I’m old enough to say it, I guess. I really wanted to do Modern Family and I really liked the script and I liked the people… but we’re in the middle of a cut back in Hollywood and salaries have gone way, way down and I just felt disrespected.

“I really like Parenthood because it’s building and it wasn’t a hit out of the box. For me, that ensemble… is so incredible. I love going to work… You have to get up early but… you get good food and you can take a little nap.”
