Nelson Mandela interacting with family as health improves

Ailing human rights icon Nelson Mandela is awake and engaging with his family as he continues to recover from a recurring lung infection. The former South African president, who turns 95 on Thursday (18Jul13), has been hospitalised since early June (13) and previous reports suggested he was placed on life support.
However, he has been making great progress and his daughter, Zindzi Mandela, is hopeful he will be discharged soon.
Speaking to Britian’s Sky News on Wednesday (17Jul13), she said, “I visited him yesterday and he was watching television with headphones. He gave us a huge smile and raised his hand. He responds with his eyes and his hands.”
She continued, “I should think he will be going home anytime soon.”
