New Jersey rock mecca Maxwell’s to close

New Jersey’s fabled rock venue Maxwell’s is to close at the end of July (13). The Hoboken rock club, where acts like Husker Du, Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Soundgarden and Smashing Pumpkins staged landmark gigs, featured in the video for Bruce Springsteen’s Glory Days.
Co-owner Todd Abramson tells The Star-Ledger of Newark that rent changes have made it difficult to run the venue and so he and his fellow owners are to shut up shop on 31 July, when their current lease on the place runs out.
Maxwell’s was recently voted the third best rock club in America by editors at Rolling Stone magazine.
