Star Wars: The Force Awakens Set To Become Highest Grossing Film of All Time

The new Star Wars movie is tipped to become the highest-grossing film of all time after experts predicted the blockbuster will make in excess of $100 million (£62.5 million) in its opening weekend.

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, which features original castmembers Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, is set for release in the U.S. on 18 December (15).

Experts have now predicted it will dominate the box office across the globe, making in excess of $100 million domestically, and overtake Avatar as the highest-grossing movie of all time.

Paul Dergarabedian of analysis company Rentrak tells the New York Post, “No December release has ever had an opening weekend of over $100 million – Star Wars should easily be the first to do so. It could have a shot at becoming one of the highest grossing films of all time.”

James Cameron’s 2009 sci-fi epic currently stands as the most profitable movie of all time with worldwide box office revenues of almost $3 billion.
