Filmmaker Nick Cassavetes will kick off 2018 in court with his estranged wife after becoming embroiled in a custody dispute over their teenage daughter.
The Notebook director hit headlines this week (begs25Dec17) after filing a police report in Oklahoma against actress Heather Wahlquist, claiming she took off with their only child, Barbarella Cassavetes, last month (Nov17) and hasn’t been returning his phone calls.
He insisted Wahlquist’s actions violated their custody agreement, which granted him time with their 13-year-old, nicknamed Barbie, over the Christmas holiday.
His ex subsequently fired back, insisting she was forced to lay low for the girl’s own safety, citing Cassavetes‘ alleged inappropriate behavior.
According to TMZ.com, Cassavetes has since been granted a court hearing for next week (begs01Jan18) to discuss the custody issue.
The deal he and Wahlquist previously signed outlined plans for Barbie to be returned to Los Angeles by 18 December (17) so she could stay with her father until 8 January (18).
Wahlquist, who separated from the moviemaker in 2012, argues she was forced to agree to the custody terms under duress.
Barbie is Cassavetes‘ third child; he is also dad to daughters Virginia and Sasha, from his 1985 marriage to Isabelle Rafalovich.
