The blonde beauty launched a $6 million (£3.75 million) legal battle against the TV drama’s creator Marc Cherry and executives at Touchstone Television Production after claiming her character, Edie Britt, was killed off because she complained to producers about an altercation between herself and Cherry, during which the writer/producer allegedly struck her.
Cherry and the TV heads testified in court that the decision to axe Sheridan’s character was made months before the alleged incident, but the Los Angeles jury couldn’t reach a unanimous decision and in March (12), Judge Elizabeth White declared the case a mistrial after a battery charge against Cherry was dismissed.
Sheridan’s legal team was granted the chance to present the case again at a retrial, and a date was set for 10 September (12).
However, Touchstone bosses have been appealing to a higher judge to bar Sheridan from trying her argument again and they are asking for the case to be completely dismissed, insisting the dispute is simply the result of a contract option not being exercised, according to Eonline.com.
A judge will decide on Friday (18May12) whether Sheridan can proceed with her new trial.
