Nile Rodgers underwent surgery last month (Nov17) to remove two cancerous growths from his kidney.

Writing on his Planet C blog, the Chic co-founder, 65, revealed doctors had discovered a “mysterious growth” on the organ while treating him for a bout of E. Coli food poisoning he contracted while touring with Earth Wind & Fire earlier this year (17).

Rodgers, who was treated for cancer in 2010 but given the all-clear in 2013, added that the growth was “two different cancers within one mass”.

However, he reassured fans he is now cancer free, writing that his prognosis is “100% recovery”.

In the blog post, which also referenced the 2016 deaths of his friends and collaborators George Michael and David Bowie, Nile explained that he was “more relaxed, analytic and calm” than after his 2010 diagnosis. He completed his tour dates with a gig in Brooklyn, New York on 2 November (17) before heading to a hospital in Rochester, New York, the following day for surgery.

After beating cancer for the second time, Nile gushed that he had “big plans” for 2018, teasing, “What will happen next year is beyond any of my wildest dreams.”

The funk and soul legend is now preparing for his New Year’s Eve gig at London’s Westminster Central Halls.

Nile’s surgery news comes months after the singer was hospitalized in August (17) and was forced to miss one of his 2054: The Tour’s concerts. Rodgers did not reveal why he was admitted to the hospital and it is unclear if it was connected to his new diagnosis or his bout with E. Coli.
