One Direction stars faced security fears at Australian airport

One Direction stars Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson were ushered out of an Australian airport with a police guard on Saturday (21Sep13) after huge crowds of fans prompted serious security fears. The singers jetted in to Adelaide to prepare for the start of their Australian tour on Monday (23Sep13), and they will be joined by their bandmates Harry Styles and Niall Horan, who are expected to fly into the city on Sunday (22Sep13).
More than 200 young fans packed out the international arrivals area at Adelaide airport in a bid to catch a glimpse of the boyband stars, with many waiting for more than 13 hours, but the crowds sparked fears for the singers’ safety so the stars were ushered out a back exit by police.
Payne subsequently explained the no show to fans in a post on his Twitter.com page, writing, “Sorry we couldn’t stop in the airport they said it wasn’t safe… Great to be in Oz tho (though).”
The news comes after bosses of the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, where the band’s tour will begin, asked for additional on-site paramedics for the three gigs there – to deal with hysterical fans.
