Media queen Oprah Winfrey told CNN’s Larry King on Tuesday that she and longtime boyfriend Stedman Graham are not planning on tying the knot any time soon.
When asked about the possibility on Larry King Live, Winfrey replied, “I don’t know the answer to that question. For the past 15, 16 years the answer has been no.”
Winfrey, 47, has been dealing with the marriage question ever since she first mentioned Graham’s name on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1992, when she announced plans to wed the former basketball pro. While the wedding never took place, the two are still an item.
“I will say that our relationship has gotten… increasingly better over the years in terms of us bonding and supporting one another,” Winfrey told King. “It was only important to me to be wanted enough to be married.”
Winfrey also voiced concerns over having Graham pegged as merely being Oprah’s boyfriend.
When King asked why she thinks fans are obsessed over her unmarried state, Oprah replied that people do not care if she is happily married or not, they just want a wedding.
“They want to see doves fly,” she said. “They want to know what you wore, how much you spend on the cake, who came.”
Winfrey, deemed by many as the inventor of confessional TV, once told audiences she regretted ever bringing up Graham’s name on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
“The only thing I ever regret is bringing up Stedman’s name so much. Some people think that’s some kind of longing I have to be married, but I just mention him because he’s in my life, like Gayle [her best friend] is in my life, like my dogs are in my life.”
