Oprah Winfrey takes African students to see The Color Purple

Oprah Winfrey made sure 20 top students at her all-girls school in South Africa had an American Thanksgiving to remember by taking them to a Broadway show.
The girls from the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls were visiting New York when their mentor decided to treat them to a night at the theatre on Wednesday (25Nov15).
Winfrey, her boyfriend Stedman Graham and pal Gayle King joined the girls for the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre visit, where the party checked out The Color Purple.
“Particularly this time of the year, you’re giving some energy and thought to what it means to be in the world and being able to have access to opportunity, which is what has happened with my girls,” Winfrey, who is one of the show’s producers, told People magazine.
She is currently developing a documentary about the making of the stage show, which will air on her OWN network on 20 December (15). Oprah landed a 1985 Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for her role in the Steven Spielberg-directed film adaptation.
The media mogul’s girls’ school in South Africa opened in January, 2007.
