Original Frenchy gave Carly Rae Jepsen a special gift before Grease: Live TV special

Carly Rae Jepsen received a very special keepsake from the actress whose role she recreated for the TV Grease revamp.
Didi Conn, who played Frenchy in the 1979 movie musical, handed the Call Me Maybe singer the pink shirt she wore on screen almost 40 years ago as the pop star prepared for Grease: Live TV event on Sunday night (31Jan16).
The gift came with a note and a locket engraved with the feel-good Grease lyric “We’ll always be together” and the date of the Grease: Live spectacular.
Jepsen posted photos of the keepsakes on Instagram, and added the caption: “Dear sweet #didiconn I can’t thank you enough for your generous spirit and inspiring talent. This locket/original Frenchy shirt you left in my room had me crying those happy tears.”
Didi was part of the Grease revamp – she took on the role of waitress Vi, who has a scene with Frenchy before she sings the classic Beauty School Dropout.
Joan Blondell played Vi in the 1978 movie.
Grease: Live hit TV screens on America’s East Coast at 7pm local time and the musical special then hit subsequent time zones as it worked its way west.
The revamp also featured Julianne Hough, Keke Palmer, Aaron Tveit, and Vanessa Hudgens, who was mourning the death of her father. He died on the eve of the show.
Hudgens previously revealed she was thrilled to have Didi Conn among the cast, insisting her scene with Carly Rae Jepsen in the Frosty Palace parlour, was “amazing”, adding, “It’s like the generations staring at each other”.
