Paolo Nutini: ‘The media should be more concerned about Miley Cyrus’ stage act’

Singer Paolo Nutini has lashed out at the media for demonising One Direction over their marijuana use when Miley Cyrus gets away with performing for teens in barely-there outfits. Nutini, who admits he has smoked weed daily since he was 16, tells Q magazine that journalists and decency watchdogs should be more outraged by Cyrus’ sexualised stage show than One Direction’s drug use after two members of the boy band were filmed smoking what appeared to be a joint and joking about cannabis culture during a recent trip to Peru.
He says, “I saw a photo of Miley Cyrus with her leotard pulled up between the lips of her vagina. Is that all right? Is that f**king cool? And One Direction can’t have a joint? They’re the bad role models? Come on!
“Can the world please get to grips with marijuana? How long can this go on? Don’t get me wrong – you can give it to the wrong person, marijuana can spawn all kinds of things – but no more so than alcohol.”
