Parker leads CFDA Awards with McQueen tribute

The actress paid her respects to the designer, who committed suicide in February (10), at the London premiere of Sex and the City 2 last month (May10) by wearing one of his creations.

And she marked her friendship with McQueen further at the glitzy event on Monday by arriving in another stunning frock from his collection and taking the stage to present McQueen’s Special Tribute Award.

The Sex and the City actress addressed a star-studded crowd including Jessica Biel, Dakota Fanning, Brooke Shields, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Rachel Weisz, saying, “There’s no question his breathtaking work will endure, but I would’ve loved to see what he would’ve done next.”

Following Parker’s speech, a number of sombre models strutted the catwalk showing off McQueen’s final fashion collection.

Other winners at the event included David Bowie’s wife Iman, who picked up the fashion icon trophy. After being handed the award, she jokingly told Bowie, “Move over, you’re not the only icon in the house.”

Weisz was on hand to present Jason Wu with the Swarovski award for his womenswear collection, and Gwyneth Paltrow escorted Michael Kors in one of his dresses as he was given the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
