Patrick Dempsey’s coffee takeover approved

The Grey’s Anatomy hunk recently made a successful $9.2 million (£5.8 million) bid to buy Tully’s Coffee and save company heads from laying off 500 staff, but he faced opposition from bosses at AgriNurture Inc., who had teamed up with executives at coffee giant Starbucks to file an objection.

They claimed the bankruptcy auction earlier this month (Jan13) had been unfair, but a federal judge dismissed the complaint during a hearing on Friday (11Jan13) and granted Dempsey ownership via his firm Global Baristas LLC, according to the New York Daily News.

In a statement issued after the court review, Dempsey insisted he was “thrilled that we prevailed”, adding, “I’ve been deeply humbled by the outpouring of support from the city of Seattle and am very proud to be a new business owner in this amazing city.

“We have a lot to accomplish over the next few months and years, and I am excited to now call Seattle my second home.”

Tully’s Coffee has 47 cafes across Washington and California.
