Patti LaBelle is a New Grandmother

Legendary singer Patti Labelle has a new granddaughter to spoil this Christmas.

The Lady Marmalade hitmaker previously shared her excitement back in May (17) as her manager son Zuri Edwards and his wife Lona were expecting their second child, and during an appearance on U.S. breakfast show Megyn Kelly Today on Friday (15Dec17), she revealed the baby arrived weeks ago.

“She’s two months, and she’s so cute,” Patti smiled. “Her name is Laila Roe (sp).”

The newborn is a little sister for Zuri’s two-year-old daughter Gia, LaBelle’s first grandchild, and the superstar has been reveling in her role as grandma, although it’s not a name she answers to.
The singer shared, “Gia, the oldest, she calls me Glam-mom, then she calls me Glam-mom Patti LaBelle.”

Her expanding family has given Patti plenty to look forward to for the holiday season.

“Cooking, dancing, playing gin rummy (card game), and swimming – those who can swim, I watch… because I can’t, and we just have fun,” she said of her plans for Christmas Day, which she will also cater. “I make everything… I do my Patti desserts… sweet potato pie…! I’m gonna enjoy life, like I’ve been for 73 years!”

However, Patti explains Christmas is not the only time of the year she shows her generous side – and she hopes others will follow suit too, particularly as survivors of the recent hurricanes struggle to recover from the natural disasters.

“I believe Christmas should be every day,” the star said. “People go crazy on the 25th – go crazy for the rest of the year! And with people needing so much like Puerto Rico and all those (places), give every day of your life because God’s given you something special to give out.”
