Patton Oswalt to play Spider-Man’s Uncle Ben in new TV series

Newly-engaged actor and comedian Patton Oswalt will give Peter Parker’s Uncle Ben a voice in a new animated Spider-Man series.

The Young Adult star, who showed off his voice talents in Ratatouille, will take on the iconic comic book role in Marvel’s Spider-Man, which premieres next month (Aug17) on Disney XD.

Uncle Ben, who is killed by a street criminal in Spider-Man mythology, offers up Spider-Man’s famous life lesson “with great power comes great responsibility”.

Robbie Daymond will voice Parker and Spider-Man in the new series, while Max Mittelman will portray his friend-turned-rival Harry Osborn.

Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, an executive producer of the series, has also snapped up a role, as coffee shop owner Joe.

Uncle Ben doesn’t feature in the new Spider-Man: Homecoming movie, but he was most recently portrayed by Martin Sheen in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel.
