Paul Reubens issues cease and desist order against Pee-wee Herman event

Pee-Wee Herman star Paul Reubens has ordered organisers of an upcoming festival named in his honour to shut down the event. Businessman Will Russell began organising Pee-Wee Over Louisville in Kentucky last year (12), as a way to celebrate the zany character’s legacy, and he reached out to Reubens’ representatives to notify them of his plans.
After receiving no response, he moved forward with his plans, but was later contacted by the star’s manager in March (13).
He tells local radio station WFPL-FM, “They stated that they wanted to help me in any way they could. After working with them for a couple months, it became clear they were going to object. I offered any compromise I could think of including changing the event title, the graphics and offering to set up a licensing/royalty deal and/or donate any proceeds to a charity of their choice.”
Negotiations broke down and last week (begs20May13) Russell was hit with a cease and desist order from the actor, which forced him to cancel the all-day bash, set for 7 September (13).
