The singer/songwriter and poetry editor Alice Quinn were the guests of honour at the gala.
Simon was introduced by former U.S. poet laureate Billy Collins, who noted the Bridge Over Troubled Water singer was among the first rock songwriters to use the word poetry in a song.
The musician, who retired from touring last year (18), performed Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard and The Boxer after accepting his latest accolade.
