Paul Verhoeven and Virginie Efira reunite for film about 17th century nun

Filmmaker Paul Verhoeven is reuniting with his Elle leading lady Virginie Efira for a new movie about real-life 17th century nun Sister Benedetta Carlini.
The filmmaker will direct Efira in Blessed Virgin, which will be based on Judith C. Brown’s 1986 book Immodest Acts: The Life Of A Lesbian Nun In Renaissance Italy.
Gerard Soeteman, who co-wrote Verhoeven’s Black Book, will write the script for the new French film.
Carlini entered a convent at the age of nine and as an adult she was sentenced to 35 years in prison for having an affair with another nun. She was incarcerated until her death in 1661, at the age of 70.
