Pearl Jam planning massive hometown shows for homeless

Rockers Pearl Jam are planning two stadium shows in their native Seattle, Washington to raise awareness about the city’s homeless population.
The Alive hitmakers are hoping to raise over $1 million (GBP720,000) at the Safeco Field gigs to help alleviate Seattle’s homelessness issues.
The Home Shows – the band’s first hometown concerts in five years – will take place in August (18).
Pearl Jam are also hoping to raise a further $10 million (GBP7.2 million) in 2018 in collaboration with local businessmen and politicians.
“Seattle is our hometown,” Stone Gossard said in a statement obtained by Rolling Stone. “When there are challenges here, we want to be part of the solution. It’s heartening so many organizations and individuals coming together to do the same. It’s going to take all of us.”
Announcing the gigs on Monday (22Jan18), guitarist Mike McCready raised the Pearl Jam flag atop Seattle’s Space Needle landmark.
Pearl Jam are hoping to perform for over 100,000 people during their Safeco Field two-night stand.
