Pedro Almodovar to be honoured by European Film Academy

Acclaimed Spanish moviemaker Pedro Almodovar is set to be celebrated for his career at the 2013 European Film Awards. The Volver director has been selected by officials at the European Film Academy to be recognised for his contributions to world cinema during a ceremony in Berlin, Germany on 7 December (13).
A statement released by the Oscar winner reads: “I am very thankful for this award. From its creation, the European Film Academy has been very generous with me and my closest collaborators. I share with them the joy of this award.”
Almodovar, who is known for his work with Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Antonio Banderas, is no stranger to the European Film Awards – he has won five prizes at past galas, while he also has two Oscars and five British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards to his name, among many other accolades.
