PETA hits back at Lawrence over squirrel scene

The Hunger Games star is seen ripping the fur from the animal in the critically-acclaimed 2010 movie and she discusses the bloody scene in a new interview with Rolling Stone.

However, the 21-year-old actress couldn’t help but made a jibe about People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), telling the magazine, “I should say it wasn’t real, for PETA. But s**ew PETA.”

A representative for the animal rights organisation has now hit back at Lawrence and urged her to be more compassionate.

The spokesperson tells WENN, “She’s young and the plight of animals somehow hasn’t yet touched her heart. As (American author/poet) Henry David Thoreau said, ‘The squirrel you kill in jest, dies in earnest.’

“The squirrel was ‘s**ewed,’ not PETA… We hope Jennifer will learn from other young celebrities like Justin Bieber, Lea Michelle and Kellan Lutz, who are using their influence to help, rather than hurt, animals.”
