PETA praises Michael Kors for adopting fur-free policy

Officials at animal rights group (PETA) have applauded designer Michael Kors for adopting a fur-free policy.
Kors has come under fire from activists in recent years, and he was even interrupted by protesters while giving a speech at an event in New York in June (17).
But now he and his partners at Michael Kors Holdings have announced they will no longer be using animal fur in products, much to the delight of PETA senior vice president Dan Mathews.
“This is a wonderful holiday gift for fur-bearing animals. We’re pleased that the company is evolving away from using fur and look forward to working with it on other issues in the future,” Mathews said in a statement. “The announcement follows many years of protests at Michael Kors fashion shows and boutiques by PETA and other animal rights groups.”
The fur-free policy will apply to all product lines across the company, including womenswear, menswear, accessories, footwear, and apparel. In addition, the policy will also be applied to products manufactured at luxury footwear label Jimmy Choo, which Michael Kors Holdings bosses purchased in July.
“I am pleased to announce our company’s commitment to no longer use animal fur in our Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo collections,” said company chairman and chief executive officer John D. Idol, while Kors added: “Due to technological advances in fabrications, we now have the ability to create a luxe aesthetic using non-animal fur. We will showcase these new techniques in our upcoming runway show in February.”
Fur production at Michael Kors will be phased out by the end of 2018.
