Pete Wentz opens up about post-marriage split drugs hell

Fall Out Boy rocker Pete Wentz was so paranoid at the height of his recent prescription drug hell he was convinced spies had bugged his home. The bassist tells the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine that his drug problems began in 2009 when Fall Out Boy went on hiatus and he started taking prescription pills Xanax and Klonopin to treat anxiety.
He tells the publication, “I was probably physically and mentally addicted. It started from insomnia and anxiety from flying, then it spiralled.”
And things really took a turn for the worse when he split from his wife Ashlee Simpson two years later: “I felt like a loser already. I’d basically gone from being the guy in Fall Out Boy to being the guy, who, like, hangs out all day. I didn’t see how I’d ever come out on the other side.
“I was scared of everything. I thought there were always people listening to me… I had my house searched for bugs. It was crazy.”
Therapy sessions and his four-year-old son, Bronx, helped Wentz clean up. He adds, “You’re up in the morning, and you have to really be there. It’s not like getting up for a radio interview. In some ways, that was super helpful for my soul.”
