Petra Nemcova praises The Impossible for tsunami accuracy

Model Petra Nemcova struggled to watch acclaimed 2012 disaster movie The Impossible because it was a very accurate reminder of the tsunami that claimed the life of her boyfriend. The Czech beauty was one of the survivors of the 2004 disaster in Thailand – she clung to a treetop with a shattered pelvis watching holiday makers and locals getting swept away by the tidal wave.
The tragedy was recounted in The Impossible, in which Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor portrayed a real-life couple who also survived the disaster.
Nemcova has given the film a big thumbs up for its accuracy, telling Shape magazine, “It’s based on the true story of a Spanish family who were separated after the catastrophe, and how they found each other a few days later.
“They were one of the very families I had seen from my window (just before the tsunami hit), and a scene of the film was shot in that exact spot.”
The model has returned to Thailand many times since the tsunami to help locals rebuild schools and she hopes to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the disaster in December (14) by completing work on 100 educational centres she has helped create through her Happy Hearts Fund all over the world.
