Pharrell Williams is Happy atop U.K. singles chart

Hip-hop star Pharrell Williams has topped off a hugely successful 2013 with a new number one – Happy has climbed to the top of the U.K. singles chart. The song, from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack, swapped places with Christmas chart-topper and The X Factor winner Sam Bailey, whose Skyscraper slipped to two, just ahead of dance star Avicii’s Hey Brother at three.
Happy is Williams’ third U.K. number one of the year – collaborations with Daft Punk on Get Lucky and Robin Thicke for Blurred Lines also hit the top spot over the summer (13).
In the U.K. albums chart, Robbie Williams continues his reign with Swings Both Ways, followed by his former Take That bandmate Gary Barlow at two with Since I Saw You Last, and One Direction’s Midnight Memories at three.
