Pharrell Williams surprises high school graduates with internship news

Pharrell Williams recently gave a class of New York City high school graduates double the reason to be Happy by guaranteeing them all internships as part of a new college programme.
The hip-hop hitmaker served as the commencement speaker for the Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academy’s Class of 2019 last week (ends28Jun19), and during his speech, he surprised the 114 students with the work experience news.
“The world is watching Harlem, but this renaissance will be different,” he told the youngsters. “Believe it or not… it’s going to actually be better. The reason why is because the new Harlem Renaissance has education at its core.”
He went on to reveal that he had been working closely with officials at the charter school to create a special internship programme, which aims to provide students with top opportunities in their chosen industries after their first year of college.
The end goal is to try and end the cycle of generational poverty facing many youths from Harlem, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
