Actress Natasha Lyonne, who starred in the American Pie series and The Slums of Beverly Hills, was arrested by the Miami Beach police in the wee hours Tuesday on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol when her rented Dodge ran off the road and into a traffic sign. The authorities told Reuters that neither she nor her passenger, Adam Goldberg, were injured.
According to the police report, Lyonne took a corner too fast and the vehicle skidded off the road, hitting a sign and some bushes. She then backed up and drove off. When the officer stopped her later, he smelled alcohol on her breath.
Lyonne told the officer at the time, “I’m a movie star. Can I talk to my entertainment lawyer?”
According to Reuters, Goldberg also told the police that he tried to stop Lyonne before the car skidded off. “I didn’t know whether to grab the emergency brake or what.” The actress later admitted she had been drinking at a bar.
Lyonne was also charged with careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident and was released Tuesday after posting $2,000 bond.
