Pop.com, iFilm Merger Is a No-Go

Pop goes the merger. Pop.com and iFilm have ended their talks to merge, according to an e-mail sent to iFilm employees Friday, Reuters reports.

“As you know, we have been in discussions with Pop.com. These discussions have ended and have not resulted in a transaction,” iFilm chief executive Kevin Wendle said in the e-mail.

On Thursday, officials for Pop.com — the never-launched Web site backed by DreamWorks’ Steven Spielberg, David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg, Vulcan Ventures’ Paul Allen and Imagine Entertainment’s Ron Howard and Brian Grazer — and iFilm confirmed the merger negotiations.

Daily Variety reported Thursday that Pop.com had been talking with other parties and that if the iFilm negotiations failed, the Web venture had other deals on hold with Vivendi and Creative Planet.
